Your Personal Commitment Guide

Many people of the Jews…came John 12:9

They did not come just because of Jesus only, because our text is quick to point out, “They came…that they might see Lazarus also, whom He had raised from the dead.” Many of you are here today, not just because of Jesus, but many are here because of another Christian (member), one of whom Jesus has raised from the dead, not physically but spiritually. The Bible is very plain, “Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us (made us alive) together with Christ,” (Ephesians 2:5). Not a physical death, but a spiritual death. That part of us that relates to God prior to conversion is dead. So today, we cry “Hosanna!” “Blessed is the King of Israel that comes in the name of the Lord”. Continue reading

Facing The Giant Of Loneliness

Listen | Watch | Genesis 2:18

Facing The Giant Of Loneliness

While serving at the Rose Hill Missionary Baptist Church in Ashland, we had entered into a building campaign. The church was asking God for $1.2 million dollars to construct a new classroom building for our growing Christian School. Paul Thompson, a friend of the church, came to Brother “Chuck” and said, “If I were to contribute $1 million to your building campaign, do you think the church could raise the rest?” There was a reason for Paul’s benevolence. He had been watching the life of Brother “Chuck” since he himself was in high school. “Chuck” was the manager of the basketball team that Paul had coached. On one occasion, “Chuck” refused to travel with the team, because of a game that had been scheduled on a Wednesday night. “Chuck” said, “My mother will not allow me to attend school functions on a Wednesday night. Facing The Giant Of Fear

Listen | Watch | Deuteronomy 1:19-33

Facing the Giant of FearI have had many moments of overwhelming fear in my life. In my childhood, some Saturday nights when my parents were out late, my brother and I would stay up and watch horror movies after the eleven o’clock news. We would watch movies like Werewolf and Frankenstein with Boris Karloff. Although these same movies are not scary to me now, as a kid, they would frighten me to death. My parents would want me to walk across the alley where we lived and get the newspaper – but I was too afraid to go. At that age, those movies did a number on me.

The Power Of God

Listen | Watch | Acts 17:16-34

We are now seeing more people come to Christ than at any other time in human history…everywhere, except in America.

What is the fastest growing religion in the world today? Christianity. It is growing at a rate of 9.6% faster than the growth of the world population. In China alone, over 30,000 people a day are coming to Jesus. If that current conversion rate continues, then 7 years from now China will be the most Christian nation that has ever existed in the history of mankind. We are now seeing more people come to Christ than at any other time in human history…everywhere, except in America. In America, we are actually witnessing a nose dive in worship attendance. It’s declining at a rate faster than ever. Over 75% of the Baptist Churches in Kentucky are not growing at all, and 412 did not baptize a single person. What’s wrong with us? Why is it that God is moving so dramatically elsewhere in the world but not in America? Could it be that there is something going on with our churches that is keeping Him from moving? Could it be that we are not giving attention to the things we need to be giving attention to?

The Gospel Of The Second Mile

Listen | Watch | Matthew 5:38-42

The Gospel of the Second Mile

Was there, or is there, anything wrong with the OT law? The answer to that question is an emphatic NO! Why? Because the Bible says,

“The law of the Lord is perfect,” Psalm 19:7

What we find in Scripture is, there’s not a problem with the law, instead there’s a problem with us! In fact, the Bible tells us,

“The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Jeremiah 17:9

“For you were like sheep going astray,” 1 Peter 2:25

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

There’s something wrong with us. There’s something wrong with the human heart. Continue reading

Attitudes That Ought To Be (Part 2)

Listen | Watch | Matthew 5:8-12

How can we have a happy life? Jesus gave us the answer in the Beatitudes.

You Ought To Be Poor In Spirit

Attitudes That Ought To Be - Poor In SpiritMatthew 5:3

  • We need to see ourselves the way God sees us.
  • We must understand that we approach God on the basis of grace and not performance.
  • Without Jesus, we are a wretch…unhappy, miserable.

Have A Beatitude New Year

Watch | Matthew 5:3-4

Consider yourself fortunate (happy) in the New Year if you recognize:

  1. That you need God’s Help
    1. Blessed are the poor. We should not be spiritually proud. We should see ourselves as God sees us.
    2. We should decrease so God can increase. Like John the Baptist taught.
    3. Come to the point where we know we are dependent on Him for everything. Continue reading
